How to Stay at The 10 Best Hotels in Miami for Less (Big Hint: Go Offseason)

August 2, 2011 at 5:07 PM | by | Comment (1)

Everyone loves Miami (except maybe Cleveland Cavaliers fans) but not everyone can do it up J.Lo style paying $1,000 a night without a glance inside their Fendi wallets. So there's only one way to do it--go in the offseason which is conveniently happening now.

We found totally doable rates for people with champagne tastes but limited budgets. And these are the deals you can get directly from the hotel. No Groupon, Private sale or Hotwire roulette needed.

However, what you will need is a little cash flow. The best hotels in Miami (HotelChatter approved, that is) aren't going to bottom out completely just because it's August and hurricane season is nearing. So expect to pay about $300 a night. Hey, it still beats a $1,000, right?

Notes on Room Rates: We searched for room rates for the weekend of August 19-21 and compared them to room rates for the same room categories for the weekend of February 10-12, 2012. All rates listed below are for those dates and rooms except W South Beach which was sold-out until 8/26. As always, these rates are subject to change. Like during Art Basel when rates get jacked!

1. SOHO BEACH HOUSE: The new kid in town brings us huge rooms with pretty Brit-goes-beach decor, a Cowshed spa, a quiet location on Millionaire's Row, and the chance to rub shoulders with Miami's power players.
$325 a night vs. $565

2. W SOUTH BEACH: Glossy rooms and ocean views, even from the cheapest rooms, make this the sexiest hotel on the beach. Mr. Chow, and WALL nightclub amp up the 'scene.'
$449 vs. $809

3. THE FONTAINEBLEAU: The hotel with the storied history dominates once again thanks to its posh restaurants, nightlife--LIV and new lounge Arkadia--and celeb-magnet abilities. But having 1,504 rooms makes it popular for biz and families, too.
$369 vs. $489

4. MONDRIAN SOUTH BEACH: Marcel Wanders' Alice in Wonderland design makes it worth heading over to the bay side of town--and the more laidback pool scene doesn't hurt either. New this season at the hotel is an outpost of NYC's Soulcycle spin studios.
$290 vs. $465

5. THE STANDARD MIAMI: Yes, you can relax in South Beach: get your downward dog on, or slip into the tub in a wet room here to chill out in style.
$239 vs. $379

6. JW MARRIOTT MARQUIS: Business travelers can let loose in downtown with the help of top-notch tech, a basketball court, a virtual bowling alley, golf simulators and db Bistro Moderne.
$179 vs. $349

7. THE SETAI: Consistently the most expensive hotel on the beach, but with knockout beauty and seamless service to back it up. Popular for Sunday jazz brunch.
$550 vs. $800+

8. DREAM SOUTH BEACH: In the heart of SoBe with a rooftop pool, this long-awaited Dream finally came true this past June. But despite its location near the sunny beach, the vibe is much darker.
$279 vs. $449

9. THE DELANO: This beachfront hotel is the crema de la crema in Miami with rooms now featuring an updated version of Philippe Starck's white-on-white design. Downstairs, there's Lenny Kravitz's Florida room and the Blue Door Fish restaurant where we had one of the best meals in town.
$475 vs. $785
All Coverage
10. RITZ-CARLTON SOUTH BEACH: Familiar rooms and service make this a popular family choice, but it's the very important services provided by the Tanning Butler that make it ours.
$399 vs. $479
