Expedia (Soft) Launches Its New Loyalty Program, Fully Functioning By March

We’ve been getting antsy about Expedia’s forthcoming rewards program for a little while now. Why? Because since doing away with Thank You points on December 1, there hasn’t been any kind of loyalty program for us to link our bookings to, and two months without booking incentives is hard for us.

But it looks like the wait is over – Expedia is currently advertising a soft launch of its new rewards program, cleverly called Expedia rewards.

The deets are on the website here, but in a nutshell, you will earn one Expedia point for every $1 you spend on hotels, flights, packages and activities booked through Expedia. Cruises do not count, and car rentals only do so if they’re part of a package booked via the official “vacation packages” tab.

According to the T&Cs, there will also be opportunities to earn bonus points “from time to time”.

There will be no blackout dates when it comes to redeeming, and it won’t get in the way of you earning frequent flier miles or hotel points (if the hotel in question allows you to earn points through Expedia). Points will not expire as long as there is some activity on your account (ie spending money or redeeming points) every 18 months.

Rewards will include “airline tickets and hotel coupons valid on bookings at Expedia Special Rate properties”. According to View from the Wing, you will need a minimum of 3500 points to redeem.

As we said, the program is currently in a soft launch (hence they’re calling it Expedia Rewards Beta) but from the looks of the T&C page, it’s set to launch in full in March – that’s the date when you can start redeeming the points you accrued in the beta phase.

But already, although the website is touting it as invitation only, anyone can sign up on this page (scroll down to bottom left). Although you may want to hold off joining just yet, because according to View From The Wing, there’s a 1000 bonus point sign up deal somewhere in cyberspace. So unless you’re booking right now, you may want to hold off until it’s tracked down. That’s nearly a third of the way to your first reward, after all.

Have you signed up for Expedia Rewards? Have you found the 1000 point bonus? Let us know in comments below!
