Micha tells us that the focus, as it's been in Mexico, will be on the art scene in the neighborhood, and New York natives and frequent visitors will find the proximity to the High Line a decided asset. As for theme? The poker-chip promo that we saw indicates that '50s Americana will dominate the decor, per Carosone's 1956 anthem "Tu vuò fà l'americano." Looks like Grupo Habita wants to do the same in 2011.

So, some Monday morning news: The Mexican boutique hotel chain Grupo Habita, is coming to New York this spring. Yes, we've heard news of the project here and there, but after chatting with one of the co-owners, Rafael Micha, in Las Vegas earlier this month, we confirmed that this is a real play to establish the brand in New York.
Word is that Hotel Americano, currently slated to open with just 56 rooms on West 27th Street, won't angle to make a PR splash, but it's nevertheless big news for the New York market that's likely most focused on the February opening of the Mondrian. After all, this is the first Habita hotel to open outside Mexico.
