Portland's Jupiter Hotel really lets its guests have their run of the place, so much so that they are scribbling all over the walls and doors.

Okay, it's not as bad as it sounds; they are made of chalkboard. The 81 rooms have doors that are lined with chalkboard on both sides, and the hotel's two event spaces have floor-to-ceiling chalkboard walls.

Apparently, there are some real artistes staying at the hotel. According to a Jupiter official, guests use the provided colored chalk to create iconic images of Portland, write quotes or announcements, or just be silly. The hotel documents the work of its visiting artists with a Chalk Art @ the Jupiter Hotel blog using guest submissions.

The chalk art on the blog runs the gamut from declarations of love, to colorful flowers, to travel advice, like this:
