One week into the New Year, we think it's fair to say that the "Happy" has already rubbed off. It's cold, the headlines are full of depressing news, and we hear that hotel room rates will go up this year (good for hotel biz, not so much for our wallets).

So, here's a nugget of goodness for 2011: The Pod Hotel in New York is running one of those wacky date-driven promotions tomorrow, 1.11.11, letting folks snag a room for $111.11--and not a teensy-tiny pod with bunk beds, either. This rate is for a Queen room.

Considering The Pod's central location in Midtown, this is a steal. (And let's not forget The Pod has free WiFi.)

As a social-media hotel pioneer, The Pod has always enjoyed playing with Facebook and Twitter, so start by liking and following them to stay on top of sales and subsequent promotions. Tomorrow, they'll be posting tweets and updates on the hour to remind their followers to prepare for the 11th hour--that is, 1:11 p.m., when the $111.11 room rates go on sale.

Securing the rate, however, will involve that most old-fashioned of social-media tools--the telephone. Guests must call the hotel at (800)742-5945. And the deal will only be available for... yes, one hour and 11 minutes.
