Could Hotel Ludlow in the LES Become A Reality, After All?
The past few years have been rough on real estate and sights like this--empty shells of buildings stalled post-GFC--have been common. But we were psyched to hear via the folks at Curbed that this particular concrete shell may actually become a hotel.
Apparently the building on the Lower East Side is being bought by BD Hotels, the investors who are already involved with a number of hip NYC hotels such as Robert DeNiro's Greenwich Hotel and The Bowery.
Even before it has been "dressed" (architect-speak for getting walls), the building has had a busy past. Once upon a time, we thought this may be a W or a Westin, then we learned it would become Hotel Ludlow. Then that plan fell apart and the property was going to become rentals instead.
We're much happier with the idea of the LES getting a new hotel to rival THOR and Thompson LES, so here's hoping the BD Hotels deal goes through (the company told Curbed it was too early to comment).
