Back in June, we were saddened to hear that the Milford Plaza, the "Lullabuy of Broadway", had closed up shop in December with no foreseeable reopening date in sight. But the hotel could reach a high note again soon.

The WSJ reports that the Milstein family, who owns the hotel, is close in talks with a private equity firm to sell off the property. Which means that if the deal goes through the new firm could do a big reno on the property and reopen next year with a brand-new Lullabuy of Broadway commercial!!

Ok, we got a little ahead of ourselves but that commercial is probably just as important to our childhood as Cabbage Patch Kids and Jams shorts. We also think the Milford Plaza could turn into one of those new hip stylish but affordable hotels catering to the Broadway/Theater crowds. We're thinking along the lines of Aloft Hotels or Tune Hotels, thus living up to the "buy" portion of "lullabuy." It could even be a great spot for a Virgin Hotel.

Ok now we're really getting ahead of ourselves here so if you have some more concrete info on the Milford Plaza, feel free to spill it.

Stayed here as a kid...

... on my first ever trip to NYC. Sad to see it go bye. But honestly, I don't think I even knew it was still around to begin with.

Highgate

Milstein's asking to much to make it work as a Tune or Aloft (could be a great loss leader for Virgin.) Either way, Highgate bought it with some hedgefund money for about $200mm.  Rumor is they are going to do the most basic renovation (the property absolutely need some work) to open and run it like they do with the rest of their NYC inventory.

wasted opportunity

highgate is wasting an opportunity here. sounds like it will just be another marginal hotel in times square. boo. someone call richard branson quick!
