Doing Drinksies at The Trafalgar Hotel in London

As we very well know, you don't have to stay in a hotel to enjoy a hotel--you can just drink in one! Always on the lookout for new spots to drink, we popped into the Trafalgar Hotel in London, just off Trafalgar Square last month.
We've written about the Trafalgar rooftop before and this being a lovely late afternoon in London, we headed up to the roof to see it in person. However, the roof space is quite small and the after-work-drinks crowd had taken up all of the seats and most of the remaining standing room. It also costs five quid to get up there if you aren't a hotel guest.
So we headed back downstairs and decided that the chic modern lobby bar, known as the Rockwell, was perfectly suitable for our own drinks meet-up. There we sat in low but comfortable black leather armchairs and ordered up some vino with some tasty appetizers (spicy potato wedges with saffron aioli, at £7, did not disappoint.) Treats aside, this bar has an extensive cocktail menu--among the delights The Porn Star Martini, the Watermelon Cooler and the Wild and Kickin' bourbon and amaretto concoction topped with ginger beer (£10.50 each.)
The bar was far from turning into a party scene when we departed at 8pm but the lights were low, the sexy beats had begun and there was a good crowd in there. All in all, it was a great place to transition from late afternoon to evening.
We only wish the service had been a little more on point. It started out with our server promptly taking our orders and bringing drinks but after an hour, she had forgotten us. By the end, we had to walk up to the bar to settle our bill.
That said, we were curious about the rest of the hotel which gave off plenty of sexy, fun and modern vibes and there were even splashes of hot pink throughout. Room rates at the hotel, which is actually a Hilton, start at around £205 a night.
