London's St. Pancras Renaissance Hotel Will Open on May 5, 2011
Last time we heard about the St Pancras Renaissance London Hotel, Bill Marriott was checking in on the works in progress. A 2011 date was tossed about but nothing concrete. Until now. The hotel's opening date is now officially May 5, 2011.
However, there is no room for delays here. The hotel must stick to this date, because it’ll be exactly 138 years since the original opening – as the Midland Grand – on May 5, 1873. When the hotel does open (on May 5 and no other possible date), here's what you can expect to find inside.
The magnificent interior has been restored to its former glory with painstaking attention to detail using expert teams of hundreds of craftsmen and painters. Many of the original areas of the hotel considered of particular historical importance have been carefully renovated including the ‘Ladies Smoking Room’, the first place in Europe where it was acceptable for women to smoke in public.
Most exciting, though, is the fact that we’ll be able to access the grand staircase – not only does it have 50ft high windows, but, far more important, it was the location for the Spice Girls’ Wannabe video.
Tell you what we really, really want – for May 5 to hurry up and come on over. We can’t wait.
Reservations are now open, and a room on opening night will set you back £300 or about $469USD.
