Now we've gotten through one of the hottest summers on record in NYC--and we're talking hotel-wise as much as the weather--it's time to take a deep breath and prepare for what's next. It looks like our next big opening will take place on October 7--when Aloft finally comes to Harlem.

Last time we checked, Aloft Harlem was scheduled to open on October 15. But as much as we'd like to hand out a gold star for the early opening, we're not sure the delays that came before that justify such an accolade. (August 19 was going to be the big day before October 15.)

Still, this is exciting news. It's the first time we'll get to see an Aloft in New York City and we're intrigued by the brand's modern, social spin.

You know Aloft is young and funky because there is a tab on the hotel's website called 'Neat Stuff'. Also, they get creative with the name of their facilities--we can expect the 24/7 re:fuel snack bar and, for something a little stronger, a w xyz bar.

Aloft Harlem is the first major hotel to open in the area in more than 40 years. There are 124-loft-like guest rooms and the hotel shares space with condo units and retailers. It's right near the 125th Street subway station, with Columbia University and the Apollo Theater both close by.

Despite the new official October 7 opening date, the first day we can find a room available at Aloft Harlem is October 14. Rooms start at $319 a night.
