5 NYC Hotels to Get Drunk with Dignity In This Fall

The Lobby Bar at The Chatwal.

Right. Now we've covered where we'll be eating as we hotel-hop this fall, it's time to think about booze. Luckily, New York hotels are more than happy to comply with our desires for a nice strong cocktail to get us through a crisp evening in the city. Here are 5 New York Hotel Bars To Get Drunk with Dignity In as the leaves start to turn.

5. Lambs Club Bar and Lobby Bar at The Chatwal New York: Yes, we've already singled out a cheap alternative for when we can't afford the niceties of this Deco den, but that doesn't mean we don't want to slip into a silky gown, sidle up to this glam little corner of the Chatwal's lobby and order a Southside one night. There's more seating in the mezzanine upstairs but we like the illicit appeal of 'just one' with a quick escape route onto 44th Street.

The Bar in the Cellar at Andaz 5th Ave.

4. The Bar in the Cellar at Andaz 5th Avenue: We've already had a sneaky taste of the signature cocktail, The Cellar Door and we give it a thumbs up. (Pimms #1, Lemon, Bergamot Syrup, Sailor Jerry Spiced Rum and St. Elizabeth Allspice Dram.) This subterranean room is as pretty as the rest of the hotel, with large Claro Walnut wood slab table/bars, leather couches and banquettes. (You'll find us sitting as close as humanly possible to the bar's cheese room.) It's getting a trial run for Fashion Week events right now but opens officially next Monday. The bar won't take reservations, and will accommodate only the number of seats available at any given time.

Salon Missesime

3. Salon Millesime at The Carlton Hotel: The Millesime restaurant won't open until October, but this new day-and-night lounge downstairs opened in August. A casual breakfast spot by day, it turns into a lounge and live-music venue with grand piano and DJ booth by night. Small plates are available and the Salon’s signature cocktail is the Night & Day, a spin on a Manhattan inspired by the Cole Porter song, which was written and composed nearby on Tin Pan Alley.

Infusion Bar Twenty/33

2. Infusion Bar Twenty/33 at Gansevoort Park Avenue: This two-level cocktail bar serving (what else?) Prohibition-era drinks is set to open in the fall, giving Ganse-fans an alternative to the rooftop scene when it's cold outside. The bar will have a glass-enclosed spiral staircase that overlooks the hotel's lobby.

The space that will become the bar at The James New York

1. The Rooftop Bar and Lounge at The James New York: We know it has views, because we got a sneak peek at the space when touring the hotel just before its opening a few weeks back. Other than that, we can tell you that the bar will be run by Dave Rabin and Hotel Griffou partners Larry Poston and Johnny Swet, and the design concept was "to create a great New York City bar that just happens to be on top of a hotel." It's set to open mid-October.
