When we were studying the hypo-allergenic suite online at the Four Seasons Chicago yesterday, we noticed on the rates and reservations page that wired or wireless internet access was included in the room rate..

We had to double-check the website URL again. Was this really a Four Seasons hotel offering free WiFi? We called the hotel to confirm and they said yes, it was complimentary for guests. Praise The Lord!

However, this appears to be an isolated incident. Free WiFi is not a brand standard just yet. Four Seasons Boston, Los Angeles, Palm Beach and Miami are just some of the other Four Seasons hotels that are still charging for internet in-rooms.

We're currently working on tracking down all the other FS hotels that may have free WiFi but this could be a very big (and MUCH-NEEDED) change for luxury hotels who have consistently ranked as "Worst" on our Annual Hotel WiFi Reports.

And it's not just Four Seasons who are doing it. We've noticed JW Marriott Hotels offering it free at select hotels and even the Ritz Carlton Dublin is doing it.

We sincerely, from the bottom of our hearts, hope that when the 2011 Annual WiFi Report comes around we can move the Four Seasons onto our "Best" list. Or at the very least, "Most Improved."

Seen a luxury hotel offering free WiFi when previously they used to charge you for it? Let us know who this brave luxury hotel is!
