What We Liked: The second floor contains only Captain’s Cabins, so you get none of the weirdness that come with floors where there are still SRO tenants. We loved the bookshelves by the bed, the handy (haha) lamps in the mirror, and that peacock brocade wallpaper was especially lush when combined with the duck egg color of the boards. Overall, it's very similar to a room in the Bowery Hotel, although not quite as plush. Maybe call it Bowery Lite?
What We Didn’t Like: The terrace. There was nothing on it, the giant fence gave it the feel of a cattle truck, there was actually building work going on either side and seeing as there was zero to look at, we were left wondering what the point was.
All the Captain’s Cabins look different – some have balconies and some have views of the Hudson, and they’re all decorated differently – and you’ll either find them on the second floor or stashed down one side of every other floor (we recommend asking for the second floor – you’ll see why tomorrow). Prices start at $250.
As for how the standard cabins are doing two years after opening, we’ll relay our experience tomorrow. Let’s just say, you may want to hold back on booking just yet.
