Use Your Hotel Key to Unlock Prizes at The Jefferson's Anniversary Party

To mark its one-year anniversary after a 2.5-year renovation, the Jefferson will be throwing a key party. Not those gross kinda key parties where swingers swap keys and partners. Instead, the hotel is selling antique keys for a contest to see who can unlock various prizes from the hotel.

On August 31 from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m., five locked boxes full of swag will be waiting to be unlocked in the lobby. People who have purchased keys will be invited to try their luck to see if they can open the boxes.

More than 150 keys have been sold but keys can still be purchased through today for $5 from the front desk. Guests of the spa, the bar Quill and the restaurant Greenhouse will get one free key for every check that totals more than $50.

The grand prize box will offer a "Town and Country" package—a free night at The Jefferson with dinner for two as well as a night at the Inn at Little Washington in the country (Virginia, Washington, about 70 miles from downtown D.C., to be exact) with dinner for two. Other goodies inside the boxes include free spa treatments, dinner at Plume and overnight stays.

Another incentive to visit the hotel on its anniversary: The Jefferson will be giving out champagne in the lobby between 11 a.m. and 7 p.m.

In case you don't win any of the overnight stays, you can snag a room at the hotel starting at $350 a night.
