It Seems Size Doesn't Matter at The James New York's Rooftop Pool

The doorman may have been sweating in sheepskin downstairs, but up on the roof at the James New York which will open September 1, things were much cooler.

With views south, east and west (oh, and of Trump Soho), it's an impressive spot. And look! It's even got an itty-bitty pool! Now, we don't mean to infantilize it—hey, a pool is a pool, especially when it's 80 degrees out—but small pools seem to be the latest trend for NYC hotels. And we're not sure we like it.

OK, space is limited in New York, we get it. But these little pools will fill up fast and lead to disappointment, no? Remember the pool at Ink48? This is even smaller than that.

Then again, we can rest assured that this spot won't be overrun with Portuguese footballers and their stalkerazzi. Indeed, the pool at The James will be open to guests only. However, the adjacent rooftop bar is open to the public after 6 p.m.

So, just like in this New York Times story and slideshow about the pool at the Hotel Gansevoort, bar patrons will have to drown themselves in a pricey cocktail and watch the pool action from afar.

whoa

I DO NOT like this trend of small hotel pools! What is up with this itsy bitty wading pond, James? Seriously?

Itzy Bitty Pools

Wow!  The opening for the "puddle" is September.  Too bad they missed the hot NYC weather in July and August so all of eight and one-half guests can enjoy it.  Ha-Ha.
