Aloft Hotels Take India Before They Can Get to London
Some of us here at HotelChatter aren't the biggest fans of Starwood's budget aloft Hotels experience, but then some of us are. Regardless of preference, we can say that it's pretty cool to see the modern, affordable chain take off and expand around the world with its free WiFi and excellent lobbies.
We've already told you about plans for London's first aloft, called the "aloft ExCeL" (so annoying), coming in 2012, but meanwhile, the first aloft Hotel in India just opened in Chennai, in a very busy and "under-hoteled" I.T. sector.
The DNA of this hotel half a world away is the same as other alofts; there's the W XYZ bar, the fitness center and pool, the free WiFi, large beds and the "plug-and-play" console for hooking up your digital media to the room's flatscreen TV. And just like in the States, rooms at the India aloft will start around $99 per night.
But aloft isn't done with India quite yet. Next month in Bangalore, aloft will open the 170-room aloft Bengaluru Whitefield, and we can bet that even then aloft won't be satisfied with just two India hotels.
