This week we're taking a look at a dying hotel amenity--The Hotel Magazine. Sure, most hotels stock their guestrooms with the trendy magazines of the day or at least place some localized publication on the desks but there are actually a few hotels out there that still publish their own magazine. We've got our hands on a few copies of these rare breeds and we'll be documenting our finds for you here. Know of a hotel magazine we should see before it goes out of print? Send it to us!

The most drooled over hotel in Vegas at the moment? The not-even-open-yet Cosmopolitan. We’ve lusted over the sneak peek of its rooms, we’ve camped out on a boiling hot Strip to see its marquee switch on, and right now we’re pouring over its magazine.

That’s right, the Cosmo’s magazine. You may remember that the real Cosmo had something to say about this a couple of years back, but we don’t think they have anything to worry about with this one – it’s more a 20 page brochure that just so happens to look like a swanky fashion shoot than a proper magazine.

Even so, it does exactly what all good hotel magazines do, ie it makes us want to go there immediately. What’s mainly doing this is the center spread – the view from room 3027, which doesn’t need any words to describe it.

On the other pages, in between very un-Vegassy pictures of cobbled streets and bicycles and what look rather like pre-war Parisian glamorpusses, we learn that the Cosmo intends to be “original and enchanting”, “refined and accessible” amd “truly different to anything that exists in Vegas right now.”

With rooms designed by David Rockwell and views like the center spread, we’re thinking they could actually be right.

Now all we’re waiting for is to see whether the hotel publishes its own proper magazine, and whether they’ll dare call it Cosmopolitan. The rumpus over that would keep us entertained once it opens.
