Orbitz Adds Some Fancy New Tools to Its Hotel Search

Another day, another announcement from a hotel booking site. This time Orbitz is hyping up their brand-new side-by-side property comparison for hotel searches.

The new feature is supposed to help customers find all the information they need in one-spot and hopefully, get more value for their money or at the very least, a pleasant hotel stay.

Plugging in a search for a hotel room in New York on August 26, we found that we could check out the amenities, descriptions, locations and prices for each hotel without having to navigate away from the main page. For more detailed information, we did have to click on the hotel listing itself.

Aside from the side-by-side comparison, Orbitz has added Google Street View for the hotel and its surrounding area which we love. Orbitz also shows you their Orbitz TotalPrice which details just how much your stay will cost after taxes which is always super helpful and saves you a few surprises at check-out.

The booking site still has its own unfiltered reviews from customers complete with photos and videos, along with standard other hotel details like star-ratings, amenities and general review scores. And Orbitz customers can now star their favorite hotels for future searches on different dates.

All in all Orbitz new features are allowing you to do what any savvy online travel booker would do normally, except without having to open so many new browser tabs. (Though, you may still want to keep one open for the hotels' own websites.)

But while these tools can definitely help you to make a better informed decision about your next hotel stay, we have a feeling that for many travelers, price is still the most important thing. And it's nothing a side-by-side comparison of hotels deal can really change.

How do you feel about these new search functions on Orbitz? Do they help you at all or are you just going for the lowest price you see? Tell us in comments below.
