While you were busy grilling and drinking and enjoying the final day of your July 4th weekend yesterday, Andaz was celebrating America's birthday with the soft opening of Andaz 5th Avenue, across from the New York Public Library. But if you didn't get in early and book one of those Summer Preview Rates last week, it looks like you'll now have to wait until the end of next week to get your foot in the door and into one of those fancy foot baths in the guestrooms.

A few days ago we noticed that there was almost nothing available at the hotel for its first week in business, and today's check of the online rezzie system shows no rooms available until July 16—but the $295 a night rate is showing up for that date. (Other dates start at $335 a night).

Remember, these are just summer rates and when everyone heads back to school in September, rooms will start from $435 a night.

If you can't snag a room here, you can at least pop into the ground-floor Restaurant (either that's its name or they haven't settled on one yet) this week. The concept of the menu is to bring classic New York dishes and ingredients to the table, rather than sending you off all over town to find them. In other words, there are goodies here from places like Katz’s Delicatessen, Sullivan Street Bakery, and the Pickle Guys.

Down in the cellar, The Bar will serve small and medium plates along with handcrafted cocktails including the hotel's signature drink, the Cellar Door. The space is full of nooks and crannies to nestle into, but we'll be looking for one closest to the Cheese Room.

We'll bring you our take on all things Andaz 5th Avenue as soon as we find ourselves inside. But in the meantime, if you stay at the hotel or drop into the restaurant or bar, do let us know what you thought. Beautiful hotel, but no bar yet

I swung by to check it out, and the hotel is gorgeous! The bar will be open in September.
