We love delicious food and an even tastier cocktail, but you know what we hate? Waiting for tables. So we're probably not going to hit up the latest 'it' restaurant until it's no longer jammed with every single stylish hipster in town. At 60 Thompson's luxe-Thai restaurant Kittichai though, we found a solution to this dilemma: the Sunset Menu.

Served between 3—5:30 p.m. daily, this between-meals tasting session is our new favorite way to eat. When we dropped by the hotel last week around 4 p.m., we were the only diners in the restaurant for about 30–40 minutes. We loved the quiet—especially in the feng shui surroundings—but if you need a scene, you should look elsewhere.

The idea is to eat Bangkok-style on the Kittichai patio, but in the NYC heat, we opted for the cool, calm bar area inside.

Food selections include Kittichai fish cakes with cucumber and red onion chutney, a Northern Thai beef salad with Chinese long beans and roasted sticky rice powder, and a to-die-for 'Meing' tuna tartare, limestone tartlets, peanut, ginger and lime. Plates average $12 each, and three was enough for two people at this between-meals hour.

The food was spicy goodness but even more fun was the Sunset Menu Summer Cocktail list. Choose from Watermelon Cooler, Passion Fruit Margarita and Plum Wine Sangria. A glass is $14, or a pitcher (the equivalent of five drinks) is $50. After much highly scientific reporting, we can heartily recommend the Passion Fruit Margarita.

By the time you've had three of these, the bar and restaurant starts to fill up with after-work drinkers and early diners. Since this is 60 Thompson, and Soho, it's one seriously good-looking crowd.

And no, that's not our Passion-Fruit Margarita Goggles talking.
