Blind Booking Bingo: Luxury Link Is Giving Away Mystery Trips for A Buck

July 21, 2010 at 10:00 AM | by | Comments (0)

We've been known to try our luck with blind booking for hotels around here, but we're still green when it comes to blind booking an entire trip. This latest promotion from booking site, Luxury Link may just get us to take the plunge, though. (But will it land us in a villa with a plunge pool?)

This summer, Luxury Link is letting one Mystery Auction winner each month take their trip for a buck—yep, they'll override the final bid and charge just $1 for the package.

The site's Mystery Auctions are typically packages that include four nights accommodation, transfers, breakfast, and excursions or resort credit. Two mystery properties are featured each week, with a starting bid of $1.

Like with all blind booking, this is not for Nervous Nellie travelers—the general location is all you really know about the mystery property in question. And four days can be a big commitment for control freaks. But, dude, one dollar? Isn't that worth a little flutter?

Relying on your fellow travel geeks' knowledge is always a good idea when you're trying to figure out the identity of a mystery property, and Luxury Link is no different. Staff will even give hints on the Luxury Link Community and let people throw around their guesses on the message boards.

For the current Western Mexico Mystery Auction, for example, the hint is:

This city has an active sister city relationship with Hermosa Beach, California.

Commenters quickly made the connection with Loreto, Mexico—but what's the hotel?

If you're brave enough to roll the dice, the auction ends this Friday. When we checked this morning, bids were up to $323.

The $1 Trip promotion is also going on over at Luxury Link's sister site, FamilyGetaway.com, where current mystery auctions include a 4-day Caribbean package, and a 2-day vacation somewhere in the good ol' USA.
