This summer, more than any other, is all about the rooftop bar in New York City. Hotels can barely call themselves such without one, they're sprouting that fast and furious.

Alas, most charge exorbitant prices for the privilege of drinking a cocktail al fresco among the skyscrapers. But not the newest rooftop in town—the one at the Pod Hotel in Midtown.

The dorm-like hotel's Pod Café has introduced a new Happy Hour, which runs Wednesday through Friday from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Drink selections include glasses of Pinot Grigio and Pinot Noir, Dogfish Head India Pale Ales, Mimosas and Bellinis—all just $6 each. There are also $16 half bottles of Catena Malbec, and $4 Pabst Blue Ribbons.

Compare this to the $13 cocktails at Le Bain down at The Standard—where you can also perch on funky chairs sitting on astro-turf, only with a whole lot more "scene."

So, the crowd at the Pod Hotel may be more frugal than fabulous, but if you're like us, sometimes you just want a cheap drink or five to close out your day. Booze without the 'tude.

Now you know where to get it. Cheers!
