Waldorf Astoria Shanghai On The Bund Will Open On September 15

When we first heard about Waldorf Astoria coming to Shanghai, we were irrationally excited, and now we've seen renderings like this one of a Waldorf Astoria Club Suite, we're going to call our excitement perfectly rational. The icing on the cake? The Waldorf Astoria Shanghai on the Bund is now taking reservations for September 15 and beyond.

This is the first Waldorf Astoria Hotel for China, and the hotel is opening in two stages. The Waldorf Astoria Club building is the one opening first, in the building that used to house The Shanghai Club.

This section includes 20 suites like this one, all classic Euro grandeur, many with views of the Bund. There will also be two restaurants, a lounge, the Long Bar (built to the specs of the original 1911 bar at The Shanghai Club), and a ballroom with a huge balcony that also overlooks the Bund.

The second building, The New Tower, will open later this year, adding another 249 rooms to the hotel. It will also have another two restaurants, a lounge, indoor heated pool, health club, spa, library and meeting rooms.

We thought this Waldorf Astoria Club Suite was seriously swish but the Chairman Suite and President Suite, which will be located in the New Tower, have been designed for visiting dignitaries and celebs, so expect even more poshness to come.

Rates for the Waldorf Astoria Club suites start at 7500 CNY, or about $1,105 USD a night.
