Ooh, here we are, all in a lather over the new hotels opening in NYC this year, and along comes news to get us excited about 2011. The latest entry into the Manhattan market will be The Conrad New York, taking the place of an existing Hilton property, the Embassy Suites New York.

The transformation of the hotel into a much more luxurious Conrad Hotel should be complete by the fourth quarter next year, and is quite a big deal, being a first for the brand in NYC.

The news is even more proof that downtown is getting its groove back, with this development joining the likes of Andaz Wall Street and the soon-to-open W New York Downtown.

Details on what the new Conrad will look like are still scant in these early days, but it sounds like Sol LeWitt's massive Loopy Doopy wall art currently in the atrium will stay on. Generally, we expect an overall boost in luxury, and are loving the sound of rooms averaging more than 550 square feet.
