UPDATE 6.24.10: After we posted this story, the general manager reached out to us and apologized for this embarrassing snafu. He also reached out to The Scout and has offered him not only his sincerest apologies but a full night refund for the inconvenience. You can also read the GM's response in comments under this story.

This is every hotel guest's nightmare--checking into their room late at night, exhausted and ready to hit the hay only to find that the room's air-conditioner is broken. But what would you do if not only the AC was broken but had been taken apart and strewn all over the desk and the floor?

This is what happened to The Scout, an NYC lifestyle blog who picked the The Nu Hotel as a place for their parents to spend the night. The Scout writes:

Room 226 at Nu Hotel in Brooklyn, NY. It was 11:30pm when I checked my parents in and this is what we found in our room. The receptionist at the desk claimed the hotel was sold out and was originally unwilling to refund our money. After demanding that the room was uninhabitable, he eventually gave my parents another room.

And we thought walking to a freezing hotel room with AC blasting was bad. At least, there was kind of a happy ending here, although we doubt The Scout will recommend this hotel to anyone--parents or not--anytime soon.

Have you stayed at The Nu Hotel? What was your stay like? Let us know in comments below.

Thanks to The Scout for tipping us off!

NU Hotel Response

Thanks for taking the time to post your experience at NU.  This was very unfortunate and certainly not the norm for our property. We will use this incident as a training tool to better serve our guests in the future.  Please accept our sincere apologies for the inconvenience.  I will reach out to you directly to discuss this in detail.

Best,
NU Hotel
General Manager

argh

that's insane. and saying it was sold out? doubly so.

Nu is great

As someone who works with hotels in NYCm,  I have to say I was shocked to read this piece about NU. It is one of my favorite hotels in NYC and they have always have great service. It is a fan favorite with my clients.. so I am going to chalk it up to simple human error and keep on loving the little hotel over the bridge.
