Don't look now—the Ace Hotel New York is sporting a massive "May Day" mural by Shepard Fairey, the artist behind the Obama "Hope" poster art. Actually, do look now since the "Obey" image will only be up on the hotel's 29th Street side until June 29, in celebration of Fairey's May exhibition at the Deitch Projects gallery.

We walked by while heading into the hotel's No.7 Sub Shop for a lamb meatloaf sandwich the other day, and noted that not only is the mural attracting attention, but that it's also covering some suspicious plywood. What's The Ace got brewing underneath there, we wonder?

In related news, we did some searches to check out summer room rates at The Ace, and it looks like even the bunk bed room will cost you a cool $209 per night. Happily that includes free internet and the rights to say that you're staying at The Ace, but it's a far cry from the $99 they promised when they opened last year.
