Andaz Liverpool Street may have started the whole fake garden thing with its Summer Garden last year, but looks like for 2010, Park Plaza County Hall has gone one better – because their new Urban Garden is actually outside.

It’s on a terrace on the second floor, and just in case you were worried about missing the World Cup while you’re outside (it’s not much of a view – nearby houses, although you can see the top of the London Eye), fear not – because the terrace is linked to the Executive Lounge, where there’s a 60-in TV that’ll be showing all the games. So you can nip in and out as you dare.

This isn’t a place to chill by day – it’s only open in the evenings (from 7.30pm every night). There will be cocktails, as well as heaters and a gazebo (just as well, for London weather). And it’ll be open “throughout the summer” – ie, until the weather gets too gruesome to brave the outside. Mid September, anyone?

A perfect view

If the cocktails are as good as this Urban Garden looks like then I'll be there next summer. London never stops surprising me and this terrace seems a better place to send flowers than watching football. Too bad that it's opened only in the summer time. I would love to see the London Eye from here in November.
