Get Some Service with the Hilton San Diego Bayfront's iPad

The Hilton San Diego Bayfront is jumping on the iPad fad with its new guest portal services that allow you to order menu items and more from the hotel's new iPad or one of your own.

There's a table-mounted iPad in the Odysea Lounge that allows you to order food, see photos of the bar's most popular drinks, request a waiter and, of course, surf the Web. But if that grubby guy next to you is monopolizing the iPad, you can use your own iPhone or iPad from the table with the new Odysea Lounge app.

If you do bring your own Web-enabled device, you also can use it to order room service, request room amenities, get a valet and book local tours of the San Diego harbor and Temecula wine country. The services even work off of the hotel's property at nearby places like the San Diego Convention Center and PETCO Park.

And if the iPad and other guest portal services go well, the hotel will consider expanding the offerings this summer. The Hilton San Diego Bayfront will look at lending out iPod Touches so that you can place food and beverage orders poolside or request towels. What we're looking forward to is the ability to use our iPhone to pre-order a cinnamon soy latte at the onsite Starbucks from our room or off-site to avoid standing in line—score.

Technology is your friend

That is awesome to see hotels jumping to use new technology to improve service.  Fad or not, if it helps, use it!!

Would love to know what company wrote the software to interface with the Hotels F&B POS System
