To start with, Eater found Jane Street outside the hotel much quieter than in the Ballroom's heyday. No masses of smoking hipsters, no lines of taxis:

The club's new and improved door staff is now positioned in the lobby and directly outside the ballroom, and all guest decisions will be made inside the building and not on the street. Smart move.

Inside, Eater found the Ballroom "laid back and festive," with attentive service, and classic rock playing at a volume that didn't require yelling to be heard. There were no guest-list kerfuffles, and the scene outside was as quiet at 1:45 a.m. as it was at 11:45 p.m.

Ballroom bosses Matt Kliegman and Carlos Quirarte told Eater that "the plan is to keep things small and friendly," to avoid repeating the mistakes of the past.

But will it last? Can the Jane Ballroom regain its footing as the hipster spot du jour,, or has its time out of the spotlight let other bars and clubs take its coveted crown?
