So what can we expect in the fall? The interiors are being designed by the Stephen B. Jacobs Group, who were responsible for the look of the Gansevoort Hotels in South Beach and New York. Jordache Hotels GM Axel Gasser says it will be "very stylish, very sexy, and fashion oriented." Need more superlatives? How about "designer," and "clean, modern glamour." Got the idea?
OK, now onto important matters like rooftop bars. The Breakwater will have a requisite rooftop lounge, but Gasser tells us "it's not a party place." The roof will have a maximum occupancy of 100, and while there are plans for private functions, they will be intimate.

Gasser also describes the lounge as a "relaxing, comfortable environment for sophisticated people to mingle and have a drink before they go out. It will be flirtatious—there will be music—but you'll be able to have a conversation. It won't a big scene."
That sounds good to us, but we can't help wondering what these people on the hotel's new website think of the plans. Do they look like the kind of people who are content to have a quiet drink and a conversation? (See top pic.)
They sure look like they're having a good time at any rate. Which reminds us—and we'll remind you, too—that while The Breakwater is aiming to be upmarket, some of its neighbors are not. Let's hope that the proximity of the Clevelander on one side, and a hostel and Fat Tuesdays on the other, doesn't get in the way of the Breakwater's intimate scene.
