One of our recent hotel-spy strolls in South Beach led us past the site of the SLS Hotel Miami (formerly The Ritz Plaza), and we realized it had been awhile since we thought of this property at all. Last we heard, there hadn't been a whole lot of progress on the construction site, and we were wondering if 2011 was a feasible opening time frame. So, what's up now?
We have no official answers as yet, but we can tell you that the site does have activity—people working! Building things!—and what was once an empty shell of a building is now more of a pretty shell with paint and glass windows. Some windows, anyway...
It doesn't look super close to completion, of course, but this is progress.
Off we went to the hotel's website to look for more clues on the likelihood of a 2011 opening, but alas all we saw was this ...
We're sure they're right and it will be something lovely indeed. But does anyone know when it's starting?
