Picture this: you've just arrived to your room in a luxury European hotel. You're tired, a little sweaty, and your phone is out of battery life. Because of the time difference, you've also got to start working on your computer right away, but you can't locate the electrical outlets. A quick, feverish look around the room don't reveal any and then—like a lightbulb going on over your head—you have the sudden idea to check the desk drawer, and there they are. A pair of polished-up glimmering outlets, an ethernet port and A/V cable ports are right there at easy reach and out of sight. It's brilliant.

It's what we found in the rooms at the 5-star Breidenbacher Hof, a Capella Hotel in Düsseldorf, Germany, and we've never seen a plug panel so advanced.

In the desk, there's the aforementioned slew of hookups. But, in the drawer of the side table next to the bed, you'll also find more hidden plugs and a whole touchpanel control which controls the lights throughout the whole room, and it's not the only one; these touchscreen control panels are located at the hotel room entrance, in the bathroom and in the sitting room (if you have a suite). Fans of the iPad will feel right at home, and even those who have never used a touchscreen will find it super easy; it's far simpler than trying to figure out what switch controls what in other hotels.

On top of the appealing plug panels, the Breidenbacher Hof is one of the only 5-star hotels we know of to offer free and fast WiFi and ethernet access in the rooms and public spaces. Such little gestures, but all which the go the maximum long way. We'll have a greater look into the Breidenbacher Hof hotel next week, we promise.
