Expedia Launches 'LGBT-Welcoming' Hotel Search

Expedia has launched a new travel service today, specifically aimed at the gay and lesbian community. In partnership with the International Gay & Lesbian Travel Association, Expedia now offers a "LGBT-welcoming” hotels option along with city and neighborhood guides for the gay scene.

Currently 500 gay-friendly hotels in North America and internationally are listed on Expedia here giving travelers a handy reference for planning their next trip. Interestingly, a lot of high-end luxury hotels are missing on this list. But maybe that's because they aren't so keen to partner with Expedia in general, not the just LGBT side of Expedia.

The city guides to the gay scene that can now be found on Expedia are a nice idea but they offer somewhat played out suggestions --The Abbey in Weho, the Chelsea neighborhood in NYC--and as the NY Times asks out "drinking and cruising, is this the gay man’s lot?" Still, we're pretty sure folks come to Expedia to get a good hotel deal, not so much seek information on what to do when they get there.

Ultimately, we think guests shouldn't have to search for LGBT-welcoming hotels. All hotels should be welcoming of its guests, no matter what. But until that day comes, we're happy that Expedia has put together this list. And just maybe it will force other hotels to want to be on this list too.

Great Program

This is a great program. This way, LGBT couples will have an easier time plannign trips. We often target the LGBT niche as one of our campaigns in http://visisearch.com. The LGBT market is very significant and business owners should not ignore it.
