Back in February, Aloft Hotels announced that they would begin a Smart Check-In program in which guests would get a special Aloft SPG member card that would in effect, act as their room key every time they stayed at an Aloft.

Now HotelChatter has gotten a sneak peek at what this smart check-in program, starting on June 1, will entail. Here's how it works:

· You'll be sent a special Aloft SPG® Member Card that will double as a room key, allowing you to bypass the front desk and go straight to your room whenever you stay at Aloft hotels participating in Smart Check-In.

· On the day of your next stay, we'll send a message containing your room number to your mobile device.

· When you arrive at your participating Aloft hotel, skip the front desk and go directly to your room. Touch your Aloft SPG card to the door lock to unlock it — you'll be checked in automatically and have full access to the Aloft Aloha desk throughout your stay.

The program is currently being tested at the Aloft Lexington and only invited guests are able to participate in the program. We aren't quite sure how they picked people to participate but we bet if you are an SPG member who has stayed at Aloft Lexington before then you probably got asked to try this out. And as a bonus, if you say at the Aloft Lexington before December you will earn 500 bonus Starpoints for your stay.

If you haven't been selected for this special program, Aloft does have a check-in kiosk to speed up your check-in process. We tried it at the Aloft Hotel at Chicago O'Hare and received a handicapped room on the first floor in error but a receptionist quickly assigned us a new room so that we could could promptly go Aloft.

Have you been selected to try out Aloft's Smart Check-In program? Tell us how it's going! (And maybe send us a pic of your Aloft member key card too!)
