Much as we love our trendy Ws and Andazes, we at HotelChatter have a fond thing for old school hotels. Grand Dames, as long as they’re done well, can be spectacular.

So we’re following the progress of the revamp of Fairmont’s Peace Hotel in Shanghai. It’s now nearing the end of a three year restoration, and to get it ready for its reopening, they’re having a shout out for “memories and memorabilia” from the hotel (which opened in 1929).

Your goodies will end up in the Peace Hotel Museum for future visitors. According to the GM:

To fully showcase the rich heritage of China’s grandest hotel, we’d love past guests to share with us their memories, memorabilia and ‘borrowed’ items so we can record and preserve history for future generations.

You hear that? They want your “borrowed” stuff too. And in return for sending back the towel that your granny nicked back in the 1950s, if it makes it into the museum collection, they’ll invite you to a cocktail reception of forgiveness. That should save some deathbed confessions.
