In continuing our running series, Adventures in Blind Booking, we decided to test out Travelocity's new Top Secret Hotels option.

We've expressed a some hesitancy with this new blind booking function before because we're so married to Hotwire and the amenities that Travelocity listed under their secret hotel options were scarce. We were also concerned about the vague location listings and the lack of on-strip hotels for Las Vegas. But we can't truly judge anything without having tried it first.

So we plugged in our date and began our search. We found a four-star hotel on the Strip for $57 and decided to jump on it. After we selected the hotel, Travelocity took us to a ridiculously long page where travelers can customize their trip by selecting show tickets, activity tickets, airport transportation, etc. In theory, that sounds ok but this page had a gazillion options, all practically screaming for our attention.

Once we finally the button to ignore all this jazz and get to the booking page, we clicked it with much relief.

Immediately after we entered in our credit card info (which was charged in full), we learned it was Planet Hollywood which is seemingly the go-to blind booking hotel for the Strip. (Hotwire loves the PH too.) Then we began to check out the rates on that day for PH to see how our deal matched up. We saw that Travelocity was selling PH for $79. This is also what the hotel's website was selling the room for as was Expedia.

Looking on Hotwire, a 4-star on the South strip was going for $59 a night while a 4-star on the North end was going for $94 a night. We're pretty sure the $59 was PH. So in short, we saved $2 from Travelocity. Every penny counts!

When we arrived at our room, we were quite happy, especially with the big soaking tub. As with all rooms at Planet Hollywood, ours had a theme based on a Hollywood movie, "The Long Kiss Goodnight" starring Samuel L. Jackson and Geena Davis. There are some prop knives from the movie enclosed in glass around the room and Samuel L. Jackson and Geena Davis stare down at you while you take a bath. Kinky! The only downer was the view which was of the casino rooftop. Check it out in the video below.So...Would we use Travelocity's Top Secret Hotels again? Debatable. We still think they need to do a better job with the listing of amenities and location. We would chance it with Vegas since we have a pretty good idea of what hotel is which but all other cities, we would have to say no at this point.

Have you used Travelocity's Top Secret Hotels to book a room? If so, tell us what you thought!
