Dorchester Collection Hosts Their Own 'Project Runway' With £25,000 Fashion Prize

Wannabe luxury fashion designers, listen up! The Dorchester Collection of hotels—we're talking places like Hotel Le Meurice in Paris, Principe di Savoia in Milan and Gossip Girl-favorite New York Palace—is launching a fashion prize which will award £25,000 prize ($38,000), accommodations and an event to one talented person with a promising vision.

It's The Dorchester Collection's own version of Project Runway, since there are very strict rules and very influential judges. For example, entrants must already be established as designers for two years in the country where the prize is offered. This year it's the United Kingdom and in 2011, it'll be the United States. Each aspiring Fashion Prize winner must create in the spirit of Dorchester; this means "individuality, luxury, style and craftsmanship."

We actually think that, because Project Runway has been such a snoozefest these last couple seasons, that this Dorchester Fashion Prize could be excellent entertainment based on their judges: fashion writer Bronwyn Cosgrave, shoe designer Manolo Blahnik, style icon Daphne Guinness, fashion designers Giles Deacon and Yasmin Le Bon and Milliner Stephen Jones.
