So here we are, still obsessing over the next hotels to open in New York—like The Chatwal, The Nolitan, and W New York Downtown—and we almost forgot about others that were scheduled for a little further down the road.

But unlike some of those hotels that have been promising us all sorts of Spring surprises with very little to show for it, The Setai Fifth Avenue is revealing loads of valuable intel—six months away from opening on November 1st. That's right, we've got an opening date, a website, room renderings, and—bless their luxurious efficiency—room rates!

We know! What did we do to deserve this? Well, since it is a Setai—managed by ultra-fancy Capella Hotels—those room rates are pretty high, so let's not get carried away. The online reservation system tells us that a Standard room on opening day, November 1st, is a hefty $545 a night. Avenue Apartment Suites are $2,395 a night, and the Penthouse Apartments... well, they're the "if you have to ask, you can't afford it" kind of expensive.

How does this compare to neighbor and fellow newcomer, Andaz Fifth Avenue, opening in August? The two properties are in different categories, of course, which is reflected in the starting rate for Andaz—$295 a night.(Of course, this is the preview rate—it goes up for later dates in September and beyond.)

But compare The Setai's entry-level to that of Gansevoort Park Avenue South, which opens this summer at $495 a night. Hmmm. Which would you prefer for a night of five-Benjamin luxury?

The website boasts that The Setai Fifth Avenue will have rooms "among some of the largest in New York City", bathed in natural "almost outdoor-like light" due to the custom-designed windows. Other amenities we approve of: free WiFi and an espresso machine in each room.

There are some other design details that we can get into in a separate post soon. For now, we're so breathless at getting so much information about a new hotel so soon that we think we need to lay down.
