What's that bright light over New York City today? Could it be ... sunshine? Oh, Hallelujah, the sun is out! We know it's Passover and Easter and all that, but onto more pressing matters: Booking summer vacations at the beach.

So, what's happening hotel-wise at New York-region beaches?

Andre Balazs's Sunset Beach Hotel opens for the season on Shelter Island on May 14. Weekend rates start at $420 a night, and Mid Week rates from $225 a night. Just remember that "weekend" means Thursday through Sunday. And like most beach properties, Sunset Beach requires a three-night minimum for holiday weekends. If you want to see Courtney Love in a bikini, this could be the beach vacay for you!

Out in Montauk, The Surf Lodge officially opens on the weekend of May 22nd, but Jetsetter has a sale starting this Sunday for a two-night stay on May 14–15. This package also includes dinner for two by Top Chef's Sam Talbot, who is the executive chef. (Catch him before he moves to the Mondrian SoHo this fall!). For regular bookings, the first few weekends look like they're already taken, but weekday rates at The Surf Lodge start at $275 a night and weekends from $325 a night.
