How Much Would You Spend On a Layover Hotel?

We often talk about Airport Hotels around the holidays or when storms are messing with everyone's travel plans. But for many peeps, an airport hotel is useful year-round, especially for layovers on long-haul flights.

This Twitpic is from a friend who was recently traveling back from Perth to JFK via Dubai. The entire trip took 38 hours, and 13 of those were spent at Terminal 3 at the Dubai International Airport. What else was there to do but check into the airport hotel with this lovely view of the airport food court?

It beats sitting slumped over one of those tables until boarding at 2 a.m. Or, as our friend put it, "Such comfy bed AND a comp fruit platter! That + being able to sleep during layover = worth the $250 rate."

We've stayed at a Narita Airport hotel en route to the U.S. from Australia a few times but our (teensy-tiny Japanese) room was covered in the Japan Airlines ticket. But the ability to break up that trip with a sleep and a shower was priceless compared to flying straight through. So, we got wondering, How much would you spend on a layover hotel?

It depends on the trip and where in the world we were, but we're thinking up to $200 a night is totally reasonable for the slice of peace and privacy we could get.

What do you think? Let us know how much you'd drop for a layover hotel in the comments below. And let us know your favorite airport hotels while you're at it.

Under $150

I would go for under $150, especially if its less than 24 hours.

Weighing Costs

I think a good way to look at it would be that you are doing well if you spend less on the hotel than you would on the price difference between your itinerary and a more direct route. Within reason, of course. I think $150-200 is a good range, especially because those hotels totally take advantage of having a captive audience!

Depends on how long the layover was

I Just dropped 70 Euros at the Yotel and Amsterdam, but it was just for 2 hours, but for the whole Family to Shower/change/and get some relaxation, it was worth every penny. For a Longer Layover, I would go up to around $150

It is Good Idea to Stay in Layover Hotel

I'm OK with the price range between $150 and $200. If the service is good, I can consider pay a little more.
