According to the Miami Herald, South Beach Hotel Group owner Alan Lieberman had never heard of Snookers and The Situation when producers first approached him about filming at Metropole.
"He wasn't into it at all,'' recalled Lieberman's 30-year-old son and business partner, Nathan. "He said: `Jersey who?'"
But it might have been the promise of being able to rent out the suite for $2,000 a night once the kids head back to Jersey that sealed the deal. Yep, the new "Jersey Shore" suite—while not yet named as such—is listed on the hotel's website for $1,999 a night starting June 1st. After knocking down walls to create the suite, it includes four bedrooms, three baths, a living room and "full Italian-style kitchen."
Also new? A hot tub in the hotel's courtyard. (Maybe they'll post a "The Situation Was Here" warning sign next to it for future guests?)
Apparently Lieberman had hoped that the Jersey Shore producers would go with another of his properties, the party-hardy Catalina, since Metropole is a hotel of "understated elegance." (O RLY?).
Let's see if it can maintain that elegance come June, once The Situation has had his way with the place ...
Season 2 of Jersey Shore premieres on MTV on July 29.
