Concierges at These InterContinental Hotels Will Soon Be Flaunting iPads

Tomorrow is officially iPad Day as that's when Apple's very first iPads will be released in stores to over-eager Apple enthusiasts techies. Jaunted has already given us the heads-up on the apps to download and we've speculated before on the use of iPads in hotels but it looks like InterContinental Hotels has beaten everyone to the punch by equipping their concierges with iPads.

As part of the hotel's global pilot program, concierges at the InterContinental New York Barclay, InterContinental Buckhead Atlanta, InterContinental London Park Lane, and InterContinental Hong Kong will be using the hottest new gadgets to dispense destination advice to guests and more. Here's how InterContinental describes it:

InterContinental expects the Apple iPad to enhance its Concierge team's interaction with guests in various ways, including:
· Enhanced Maps and Directions - Rather than jot directions on a foldable paper map, Concierge teams will be able to provide exact directions, through interactive maps with high-resolution satellite imagery, close-up street views and detailed walking routes.
· Video Recommendations - Concierge teams' top local recommendations come to life in destination specific videos, a unique InterContinental feature. The Apple iPad will allow Concierge teams to present these short videos to guests, so they get a clearer idea of selected recommended activities even before they set off.
· Instant Booking Confirmations - Concierge recommendations of restaurants, performances and attractions can be clearly illustrated with vibrant images and sharp text, and bookings may be made and confirmed instantly by e-mail.

And guests who use concierges who um, use iPads will be able to tweet about their experiences by @replying to the Twitter handle, @WorldConcierge.

We have to admit, we didn't even think about concierges using iPads to help guests so props to InterContinental for being the first. But we wouldn't mind a loaner iPad in the guestrooms either.

Thanks Juliana!

We're glad the HotelChatter team likes this idea. We can't wait to get our hands on the Apple iPads, and for them reach our four locations next week. Watch this space for more updates!
