House of Blues on Sunset May Be Replaced By Crazy Hotel Complex

According to LA Curbed, the famous House of Blues on Sunset may be replaced by a bewildering hotel-residences complex which would nearly make this stretch of Sunset entirely occupied by hotels.

Last week, the West Hollywood Planning commissioned "essentially OK'd" the project which will include:

149 hotel rooms; 35,000 square feet of commercial-restaurant space---including a new 6,200-square-foot live music venue--;40 condos; 5 affordable units, and 22 affordable units off site at 990 Palm

The project will be brought in front of the board again on May 20 to make it official. Also the hotel won't be called the House of Blues hotel but rather The Sunset Hotel and Residences and it will have a massive video wall along the top and the sides, which is sure to please the neighbors at the Mondrian, Andaz, Sunset Tower, Giraffe and the Best Western.

Additionally, it look like there may be another hotel/residence complex attached (or off to the side) to the development which would be called The Olive Hotel and Residences. Both hotel projects are named for the streets they are on. How original.

However, LA Curbed makes a very good point--can West Hollywood handle any more hotels? Space-wise, yes. But we wouldn't expect any of these hotels to be very profitable. Too many hotel rooms means lower hotel rates which is great for visitors but not so awesome for hotel owners and developers. And don't get us started on hotels with residences attached.

If the HOB hotel complex gets built, don't pay full price for your room. Instead, hit up Hotwire, Priceline and the like for dirt-cheap rates. That's what we already do in WeHo anyways.
