Are you ever in your hotel room long enough to get bored with what's on the television? It's a rare occasion we know, but occasionally this can happen and that's why the pay-per-view movies are going strong on hotel television sets. To combat this, the ever-creative people at Standard Hotels have birthed their own channel: StandART.

StandART, a partnership with Creative Time, is a dedicated channel of video art, exclusive to Standard Hotel properties. The channel launched a few days ago at The Standard New York, and we headed up to the 18th floor's Poolside lounge for a preview of the works and also a cocktail or two to relish the view.

If you check into a Standard from now on, you'll be able to tune into films ranging from four to seventy-four minutes, and spanning the decades—there's even a Jean-Luc Godard film in there.

The party for StandART itself was an informal affair, with a viewing corner for the films just off of the small, 4-foot-feep pool that's perched in the black bar area of the Standard's infamous 18th floor. Although no one dare get their duds wet, we did enjoy the design of the space, particularly the tilework throughout; glossy mixed with matte tiles caused the entire room to appear playfully splashed with water, even if the pool remained untouched.

And the views...oh, the views. Check out our gallery of more shots from the StandART party above, and then perhaps you'll see why we have no adequate words to describe what it is to see the city below you and glowing, late on a winter's night.
