Andaz Fifth Avenue Puts Up Pretty Murals, Hopes for a Spring Opening

With the Andaz Wall Street opening last January, we thought we might have to wait a bit longer for the Andaz Fifth Avenue to open, which is why we have it pegged for "Fall" on our Master Openings list.
But the Andaz folk seem pretty committed to a "spring" opening which could mean any day now. But remember, the first day of summer is June 20 so technically, the hotel could open on June 19 and they would still be in the spring time-frame.
Until then, the hotel has been draped in red murals that ask the question, "What is your Andaz?" which is then answered with comments from "urbanites" about their favorite NYC moments (Check out the "People in Love on Subway Platforms.) Aside from drawing attention to the hotel, the red murals are also covering up some work that's being done on the Tony Chi-designed hotel.
In the picture above, the mural is hiding the large steel factory windows that will offer views across Manhattan for the folks lounging inside. However, we've learned there will be a bar and restaurant below ground level to give guests a quieter, cozier space.
But up in the rooms, the guestrooms are expected to be full of natural light. Also, those trippy Andaz baths will be in place. Whenever the 184-room hotel near Bryant Park and the library does open, they expect room rates to start at $295 a night. For its location and its newness, under $300 is not that bad. Let's just hope it stays that way.
