While Andre Balazs is out there cavorting with crazy Courtney Love, Ian Schrager is getting to work transforming the Ambassador East Hotel into a hip budget hotel for the "chic set." According to the NY Post, Schrager has finalized his takeover of the hotel which is located in the city's Gold Coast neighborhood and is a National Historic Landmark, having been built in 1926. (It was also the nuptial site for Humphrey Bogart and Lauren Bacall.)

The hotel has 285 rooms, the "world famous" Pump Room restaurant (Schrager's gotta keep that name!) and "celebrity suites" where various celebs over the years have stayed.

We'll be keeping close tabs on Schrager's design plans for the hotel (and we sort of hope a name change is in store too) but if you like old-timey hotel decor, you can book a room right now for about $161 a night. We'll be waiting until the Schrager-ization takes effect.

Got any scoop on what sort of design Ian has in mind for this Chicago hotel? Let us know or put your hot goss in comments below.

ABOUT TIME

The Ambassador East, which was an Omni for a bit, sits at an EXCELLENT location. Too bad it was in disrepair these last 5-10 years. It really deserves some love and it can be a great hotel once again!
