W Hotels Puts Out a New CD, Courtesy of Its Global Music Director

The W Hotels is dropping a new joint, and we're not talking the W Vieques. The hotel chain put out its own CD, Symmetry, mixed by the W's very own global music director, Michaelangelo L'Acqua.

A hotel chain having a global music director seems peculiar, but it shouldn't be too much of a surprise, since the trendy W also employs a fashion director. As the W's first global music director, L'Acqua fosters partnerships with labels, curates the company's compilation CDs, and gets artists to perform in DJ series and at special events.

L'Acqua has the chops to be the W's head mixmaster. Tom Ford asked him to be the European music director for Gucci and Yves Saint Laurent. He's also produced fashion shows for designers like Ralph Lauren and Tommy Hilfiger, executive-produced major-label albums, and scored music for commercials.

His latest work for the W is the Symmetry. The CD has songs like U.S. indie rock band Gossip's "Four Letter Word" and a Mark Ronson remix of Swedish pop group Miike Snow's "Animal." According to the W, each song is supposed to "represent the aural symmetry between the W lifestyle, our worldwide destinations and guests from across the globe." You can hear the tracks here and find out for yourself whether the music director achieved "aural symmetry" or just made a mixed CD.
