Now You Can Use Marriott Points During Your Hotel Stay

If you don't want to wait to redeem your Marriott Rewards on your next trip, the brand's now allowing you to instantly use your rewards on almost anything in the hotel, from room service to spa treatments.

The points previously were used for hotel rooms, frequent flyer miles and things of that nature. But Marriott guests complained that they wanted more flexibility with their points and so the company answered by giving them more control on when and where to spend with instant redemption awards.

If you're scrambling to hit the hotel bar to use up your extra points, here's the point-dollar breakdown:

Points Required      Up to Dollars
2,500                       $5
9,000                       $20
20,000                     $50
35,000                     $100
59,000                     $200
100,000                   $500
190,000                   $1,000

So if you requested a $40 instant redemption award, you'd have to give up 18,000 points, or two 9,000 point awards. For a $125 instant redemption award, you'd need 46,500 points: one 35,000 point award (up to $100), one 9,000 point award (up to $20) and one 2,500 point award (up to $5).

A few deets: you can only use the instant redemption points once you have checked in, and they can't be redeemed for something after you've checked out.
