Still catching up on all the Oscar movies you didn’t see before the big day? If you’re in New York, there’s a rather civilized way to do this now that the Crosby Street Hotel’s screening room is open to the public. On Sundays, anyway. The hotel’s Sunday Night Film Club kicked off on Sunday with The Blind Side and for the next four weeks, other Oscar-winning films will get a turn.

The bar area outside the screening room.

The Film Club is a Firmdale tradition and is already running at some of the London hotels. Until now, The Crosby Street’s screening room was only open for private functions—ie. celebs attending movie premieres. But Sunday Night Film Club is open to both hotel guests and members of the public. They’ll even feed you!

You will pay for the privilege, of course. Dinner and a movie costs $50 per person or a cocktail plus bar plate and movie costs $25 per person (although it looks like this option requires a minimum of two people). The dinner—a set menu—and cocktails are served in the Crosby Bar before the movie at 8 p.m.

It may sound pricey, but this is New York. A drink and snack and a movie for 25 bucks isn’t far off what you’d pay at the Cineplex, and there you’d have to deal with the moviegoing masses. The Crosby’s screening room only seats 100.

Best Picture-winner The Hurt Locker is up this coming Sunday, with Up, Crazy Heart, and Avatar slated for the following weeks. One of the best things we’ve heard about the Film Club is that there’ll be a short film shown before the feature each week. Although for these first five weeks, the short will be The Reconstruction of My Views, which is all about … The Crosby Street Hotel.

For reservations, call the hotel or email bar@crosbystreethotel.com.
