When one door closes, another one opens. Even when it comes to hotel eateries. And so it is at The Plaza, where there's good news for a change. After closing in January 2009, the hotel's iconic Palm Court restaurant will reopen on April 12.

It wasn't so long ago that we made a sad face about The Demel Bakery closing, so we're glad to see that things are looking up for the Plaza. The New York Post reports that the renovated Palm Court will have new furniture, modern lighting, and no more dreary harp music.

The new incarnation of the Palm will serve breakfast, lunch, and afternoon tea—now at a much friendlier $45 instead of $65. Willis Loughhead is the chef, and former Tavern on the Green pastry chef Jasmina Bojic is in charge of the sweet stuff.

While it won't be open for dinner, the Post mentions that the Palm Court will host private events on select evenings, such as the recent party for the movie Remember Me. Did you hear that, Twihards? R-Patz was in the building!

Now, there's a way to guarantee a crowd ...

YAY new furniture!

Okay I am so down for that tea. $45 actually makes it a competitor with other 5-star hotel teas in NYC, rather than completely out of the league.
